Portumna Golf Club: It was a story of the three Marys from Portumna as the minor ladies won the All-Ireland at Donabate Golf Club. Portumna were unstoppable in the final with Mary McDonagh leading the way by scoring a 4&3 win in the first match. Mary McElroy followed with an impressive 7&5 win before Mary Kelly brought the title west thanks to a 5&4 win in the penultimate game.

Oughterard golfers win All Ireland Mixed Foursomes

Oughterard Golf Club: Oughterard is celebrating All Ireland success after winning the Irish Mixed Foursomes trophy. The Connacht champions defeated their Munster counterparts, Lisselan, by 3 - 2 at Castlerock Golf Club. In the semi-finals Oughterard scored a 3-2 win over the Ulster champions City of Derry, while Lisselan beat the Leinster champions, Clontarf, by 4-1.

Galway Golf Club’s Eddie McCormack (+3) has been included in the team to represent Ireland in the Home Internationals that take place at Ashburnham Golf Club, Wales from August 11 to 13. The Cavan golfer, who plays out of the Galway club, has enjoyed consistent form throughout 2010 - a beaten finalist in the West of Ireland, third-round leader in the East of Ireland championship, and two singles wins for Connacht in the recent interprovincial series at Ballinrobe Golf club.

Golf outing for Connacht

•Connacht Rugby will host a golf classic tomorrow. The competition, a four ball stableford with two scores to count, will take place at the Galway Bay Golf Club. Renvyle House Hotel has been gathering quite a few awards for its food over the years; the executive head chef Tim O’Sullivan has been the subject of much praise and produced a really good cookery book. All of this seemed a valid reason to spend a weekend there and see if it lives up to the publicity.

Oughterard, Loughrea, and Galway golf clubs were the winners in the provincial finals of the Bulmers cups and shields. Oughterard Golf Club beat Strandhill Golf Club 4/1 in a dramatic final of the Junior Cup held in their home club at the weekend. Loughrea Golf Club beat Galway Bay Golf Club 3/2 in the Pierce Purcell Cup, while Galway Golf Club beat Athlone Golf Club by six holes in the Barton Shield and Co Sligo Golf Club 3/2 in the final of the Senior Cup.
